Disability insurance covers injuries and illnesses that prevent you from working. There are two types, Short and Long Term Disability.
- Short-Term Disability provides coverage for a limited amount of time due to a lengthy illness, disability injury, or the birth of a child.
- Long-Term Disability provides coverage over a longer time period than Short Term Disability. According to the Council of Disability Awareness, the most common long-term disability claims are due to musculoskeletal / connective tissue disorders (back pain, osteoarthritis), cancer, Injuries / poisoning, cardiovascular / circulatory disorders (heart attack, coronary artery disorder), and mental disorder.
